About Dr. Lisa Marie Samaha
Founder and Director of the Perio Arts Institute
Lisa Marie Samaha, DDS, PC, a general dentist practicing reconstructive and comprehensive dentistry, as well as the treatment of sleep disorders, has spent nearly all of her 28 years of private practice researching and preparing a protocol for the conservative and successful treatment of periodontal disease. Her pioneering research into areas like the clinical monitoring of hs-CRP, Hb-A1c, cholesterol, and vitamin D levels is helping to establish a new standard of care in dentistry. Dr. Samaha is a nationally recognized leader in the use of pharmaceutical-grade anti-inflammatory nutrients in the treatment of periodontal disease, a modality she refers to as “periodontal nutrition.”
Dr. Samaha’s Periodontal Focus
Although she is a general dentist, Dr. Samaha has been a member of the American Academy of Periodontology since 1984, attending their continuing education meetings, learning from the nation’s top periodontists and closely following periodontal research in their journals and forums. Highly experienced in the successful care of periodontal patients in her Port Warwick Dental Arts practice in Hampton Roads, she refers less than 2% of her patients for specialty care. Approximately 65% of her practice is devoted to periodontal care and the rest to comprehensive cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry, as well as the treatment of sleep disorders.
Dr. Samaha began her journey into the world of periodontics as her periodontist dad’s surgical assistant at the age of 15, nearly 40 years ago. It was in 1982, as a new graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry, Richmond, VA, that she first began presenting regularly to physicians in an attempt to bridge the gap between dentistry and other medical professions. As you will quickly learn, Dr. Samaha’s commitment towards this end remains dynamic and ongoing.
In 2007, she was featured in a television segment called “The Oral/Systemic Link” which was shown nationally on CNN, FOX TV, NBC and PBS, and distributed internationally on Voice of America. She is also involved with leading medical experts in collaboration on a global initiative in oral/systemic health.
Founding Member, American Association of Oral/Systemic Health
In October 2010, Dr. Samaha helped launch the first professional organization devoted to the Oral/Systemic Link. AAOSH is a network of dedicated health care leaders working to change professional and public behaviors and address the importance of oral health as it relates to whole body health.
